Kitsune

Kitsune have a long and varied history in the world. Ages ago, they had a nation of their own and their only form was that of an anthropomorphic fox. They lived peaceful lives, in harmony with nature and each other. But dark fey were offended by their lives. They lured humans to the kitsune lands. And in turn, they planted distrust in the kitsune. The resulting war devastated the kitsune population.

The ones that were left went to the dark fey for help, believing the dark fey to have been the only thing that saved them. The fey, along with evil magics lost to time, gave the kitsune their shapeshifting and magical abilities. The kitsune used these gifts to become powerful assassins. They played tricks on the humans, set them against each other, caused wars.

But for all the damage they caused, the kitsune found no solace nor peace. In time, they lost their blood lust, as new generations were unable to relate to those that passed. Today, kitsune fill a variety of roles. Some are trusted advisers to the nobility. Others have found unclaimed land to live in clans with their kind. They can also be found among many of the surviving nations, though not always in their true forms. There are still those that live in the shadows as well. And they could seek out their destiny in the mists for any number of reasons.
