From the Dark
The birth of a tiefling is a tragic event. Yet many are allowed to live to adulthood. The reasons for this vary. Some believe their demonic blood will eventually take over completely and will reveal the secrets of the dark, whether harnessing it or destroying it. Some believe tieflings have a responsibility to make up for the sins of the family. Still others believe that bringing a tiefling to an unnatural demise would anger the forces of evil.
But other than being allowed to live, a tiefling gets very little in their life handed to them. Most people hate and scorn them. They are forced to do the dirtiest jobs and many of them resort to a life of crime.
Making the journey into the mists is considered a sacred journey for tieflings. If the journey is known, a ritual is sometimes done on the edge of the mists. It is simple and is set up as a way for friends to depart. But most people consider it a way to wash themselves of something that should have never been, and a ritual gift to the departing tiefling is a small wooden doll of a devil on a leather cord, to remind them of what they are.
